the world was cool and dark at night. When the stars came out to blow their kisses to the forest below and the moon opened her eye to watch warily at the activity of the clans, that was when nettlecoat liked to be awake. There was something so calming and safe about the darkness. The harsh light of day had always felt so foreign.
That was the reason that she strolled the forest long after the moon had begun her ascent. Nettlecoat reveled in the quiet, only perturbed by the soft singing of crickets as they made their worship to the moon. This was when the world was good.
But she was not alone tonight. She knew the solace of being alone and its comfort had not joined her after the sun had gone down. "Who is it?" she asked, her voice soft and sharp, an underlying threat ready to spring if she did not like the answer. |

"Just me." A creamy tom strolled out of the shadows, seemingly appearing from nowhere despite his lightly colored coat. Maplegaze had such an odd way of presenting himself, posing as if he was always there and was always meant to be there. His deep amber eyes glinted in the light of the moon, half lidded as they narrowed in a friendly greeting to the warrior. His pace was unhurried as he strolled closer to her, stopping at a polite distance where he slowly sat on his haunches to stare at the moon. There was a moment of peaceful silence before he looked back to Nettlecoat. A strange looking molly; Built like a moor cat, furry like a forest cat.
"I do hope I'm not a bother to appear all of a sudden," he said, tilting his head in worry. "I just love night walks, they're so peaceful and refreshing."

"Just me." Didnt he know that there was no such thing? Maplegaze. Nettlecoat was not familiar with the tom. Shifting her odd form, she flicked her tail in mild annoyance. "All cats are a bother. I'll live," she muttered. Something about the Tom set her on edge. Maybe her years of avoiding her clan mates were catching up to heel. Him specifically wasn't the part she didn't trust. She didn't really trust anyone. Perhaps she should have more faith in the warriors that she shared rank with. Perhaps she should be realistic in their absurdity.
"As do I. Not many other cats are out and about." her tone didn't change much. It was smooth and low, blending in quite nicely with the little sounds of nature about her. "So, what's your story?"

The tom tilted his head thoughtfully. "My story?" Did she mean his past? There wasn't a whole lot to say about Maplegaze. His parents were an odd case, having been a very young couple when they first came to the clan as loners so long ago. Years passed before Maplegaze came into the picture. He was the only kit of his mother, Meadowtail, who passed away during her kitting as she was too old to survive the ordeal. So tragic. His father, now an elder, was always a boring individual, which may have caused Maplegaze to seek redemption and honor in... other ways. But if Nettlecoat didn't already know all that, she didn't need to know it now.
"There's not much to say about me," he said. "Just a warrior looking for a purpose. And tonight that purpose is getting a breath of fresh air and chatting with a clanmate." Nettlecoat, being so... antisocial sometimes, was a cat Maplegaze didn't have a chance to chat with often. Most of what he knew about her came from other clan members. Curiously, he wondered if she had any secrets or reasons for being so illusive. "Now, surely a lovely molly such as yourself must have something more interesting to say." he wondered aloud, offering her a gentle smile.
